VGAHDW.EXE PS/2 Video Graphics Array Hardware Test Version 1.0 |

VGAHDW is a DOS program created by PC Magazine's PC Labs in early 1988.
The purpose was to determine the level of hardware compatibility
between a clone VGA Controller and the original IBM VGA. IBM released
the VGA controller on two hardware platforms. One was a add-in
board for AT Class machines and the other was integrated onto the PS/2
computer motherboard. In the late 1980's many companies were marketing
VGA chips. Some implementations were highly compatible to the original
IBM chip, but many others were not. PC Magazine as well as other
independent testing groups released programs to directly talk to the
VGA hardware. These programs tested not only the documented features of
the IBM VGA but also the undocumented (and not widely known) registers
and functions.
